Blackstoun Utd AFC v Murray Rovers
7-2
K.O. 3.30pm Ferguslie Park (Astro) Referee Robert Colquhoun
Murray are a new team into the league so once again we know nothing of them as to how good they might be. The only thing that I did find out was that they are an amalgamation of three works teams that have decided to have a go in an actual league set up. So the best of luck to them as the more teams we have the better. We are a long way off the days when the Paisley & District AFL had several leagues operating, but from two to three is a step in the right direction.
Theirs a strong wind to day and it will have an effect on the game.
K.O. at 3.33pm they have the centre and we have the wind. In the first five minutes its all us and to cap it off Ryan Pirie has a cracking shot off the underside of the cross bar. He hit it with such ferocity that it bounced off the bar a second time, some how they managed to scramble it away.
15 min’s we still have most of the possession but they look quick on the break it came to nought but it served as a warning and their no 10 up front looked dangerous.
20 min’s and they are pushing up the park again Gary Hyndman intercepts their loos ball, looks up and makes the intelligent pass to Gary Stevenson. (As opposed to just hoofing it up the park) Gary S spots Gary McLeod in the centre mid of the park and puts through a great ball, Gary Mc rushes on and beats the out coming keeper and lobs him. 1-0
30 min’s Chris Crichton takes another corner it falls to Stuart Witherspoon (Spoony) who get in a good shot and forces a good save from their keeper. We are getting a lot of corners but failing to make them count
2 minutes latter sees Gary H and Gary S link up well again this time creating a half chance for Robert Clark who shoots wide.
35 min’s we had them pinned back again, just as they were breaking out Ryan steals the ball, holds off the defender and gets in a whacking shot which left the keeper with no chance 2-0.
Five minutes later Murray get in their first shot at goal which Steven Kane saves easily. Just as we were winding down for the half time, a few minutes later they get a clean break through their no. 10 and make it 2-1.
This only served to annoy our players and put a dampener on all the good work that the whole team had put in. So they went strait at them again this time Robert getting in a solid shot just going wide. Seconds later Robert gets in another cracking shot leaving the keeper stranded. 3-1.
And in the final minute of the first half Ryan gets his second by slamming home a Gary S cross which went through a crowd of players to get to him. 4-1.
Half Time
In the first five minutes we are slow to get started and they have two good chances one of which hit the post, but after that we started to impose our selves onto the game again and in the 9th min one of our new signings Karl Flynn burst through their high defensive line and was one on one with the keeper and coolly slotted it home 5-1.
20 min’s some good play from Chrissy gets him into a striking position only to put it just wide of the post.
25 min’s they are not giving up and are pressing us back but Owen Gillespie puts a foot in and breaks up their attack. He looks up and spots young Kevin Kane making a run on the right. He puts through the perfect ball Kevin takes it in his stride and charges onto the keeper he powers it home giving the keeper no chance. 6-1.
A few minutes later and some good work give’s Robert another shot at goal this time just going over the bar.
On the half hour mark we are well into our stride and our one touch pass and move routines are working well.
35 min’s Chrissy put in a good corner, up jumps Spoony to make it 7-1.
40 min’s all credit to them they haven’t given the ghost and are still trying and Steven is forced to make a few good saves.
In the forty fifth minute they win a free kick just out side our box we did not deal with it well and the game ended 7-2.
We had a good game and played well in all departments just a pity about the two sloppy goals, but we can work on that.
Well done.
