Friendly
Blackstoun United v Abercorn AFC
12-1
K.O. 8pm Thursday 3rd December 2009 Seedhill Astro Park referee Jeff Spurway
It was a cold but dry night on the brand new G5 Astro Park at Seedhill. We had agreed to play Houston on an Astro park on Saturday so we wanted to get in some match practice. We had played Abercorn who are a new team into the Paisley & District league, in a friendly at the start of the season and we beat them 6-0, so we were keen to see if they had come on any and also to see if we had improved any.
The match kicked off at 8.03pm and we were at them right away. It took three minutes for Robert to get in the first shot which was blocked, it spilt across the face of the goal but Ryan failed to react to the loose ball and they manage to clear away the danger.
A minute later Chrissy wins the ball outside their box and drives in cutting through three players and then does something he hasn’t done before to my recollection any way, he shot the ball low and hard with his right foot. Liam who used to play for us was now in goal for Abercorn and knew Chrissy was a lefty and was caught out and was rooted to the spot 1-0.
9 min’s and we are on the attack again Robert wins the ball in mid field and puts through a perfect ball to one of our debutants Paul McLaren who blasts it home to make it 2-0.
13 min’s Karl gets in a shot but it is well over. A minute later Ryan put in an excellent cross to the back post where Smudger meets it perfectly to head it back across the goal and into the net making it 3-0.
16 min’s some good work down the left with Chrissy, Robert, Ross and finally to Ryan who slams in the first of his four goals on the night 4-0.
Straight from the centre Robert works himself into a position where he gets off a solid shot Liam saves it by putting it out for a corner. The corner comes in Kevin gets a good head to it but Liam saves it this time holding onto the ball.
26 min’s some good one touch pass and move football creates a space for Ross to get in a solid power drive to make it 5-0.
32 min’s this time some excellent work down the right wing starting with Smudger passing to Karl who gets the ball in to Ryan who slams in another great shot to make it 6-0.
40 min’s some times when it’s all going your way and it seems too easy you lose your concentration and it all goes pete tong. The back four of Smudger, Kevin, Gordon and Chrissy had been working well and dealt with everything that came their way with ease get themselves into a fankle which allowed them to have a shoot that Kevin blocked resulting in the ball lobbing Kane leaving him with no chance 6-1.
Halftime.
One minute in to the second half Ryan bags his hat-trick with consummate ease 7-1.
As you can imagine it is all pretty much a one sided affair now, a minute later Paul gets in pin point pass to Steff who first time volleys it into the net 8-1.
About 15 min’s into the game and Mark starts making changes this as we know affects the continuity of the game but it was well won and before too long they were back in their stride.
65 min’s Steff gets his second with an equally good goal to make it 9-1.
Less than a minute later Robert makes it 10-1 with another well worked move.
70 min’s and Karl is brought down in the box the ref awards a penalty after some debate Karl steps up and takes it himself and slams it in 11-1.
81 min’s Gary Stevenson battles his way into the box and is brought down another penalty. This time Kane is called up to take the penalty, he gave it some welly but it sails over the bar. He later said that he wasn’t composed because he had mentally set himself up to take the first one.
Aye right!!
About 5 min’s later Ryan wraps it by scoring his fourth goal of the night, last but the least it was like every goal that was scored tonight well worked and well taken 12-1.
This performance did a lot for our team spirit for going into the game against Houston AFC on Saturday, so for that I have to thank Abercorn AFC for the game. I know it was a bit of a beating for them but I hope that they were able to take some positives from the game and that it helps them to be better and stronger. The one thing that I thought was good about them was that they still tried to play football right to the end. Lesser teams would have just humped it up the park or start kicking out to get rid of their frustrations.
Keep plugging away the rewards will come.
